PENANG TRIP 26th-28th DEC 2007
mission: to savour the local delights of penang!
partners in crime: jeremy and shiling... jeffry's butt was too round.. stuck in singapore! =P
and armed with a list of places to eat and shop.. by him. coz he's from penang..
Day 1 26th Dec 2007
shiling picked me up and we headed to jerm's place. coz he arranged a driver to drive us straight to senai airport! reached the senai airport ard 10am. i was impressed with it. initially i thot it was some run-down airport but it's quite good. though the air con was too strong! BUT the toilets are really clean!!! =)
had our coffee at coffee bean and egg tarts. compliments of ling's parents. and it's fresh!! ling's parents just bought it back on the 25th. waited for the counter to check in!
first time taking air asia. hmmm.. seats are too small for my liking.. but well it's a one hr flight so bearable!
upon reaching, we asked for a taxi. as the hotel is located in zone 5, it cost RM 38 to get us there. we liked what we saw. the hotel is really new.. and the shopping ctr, gurney plaza was besides us! =)
checked into our room.. 920! the room was big!!! and tastefully done up! just love it! they even have a corner for work!
rested awhile and went out sniffing for food!!! we were hungry!!! after going through the directory, we decided to have chilis. yum yum. we shared the food.. which i cant rem their names at all! haha.. satisfying.. but the bill was RM 82. quite reasonable.
then it's shopping time!!! before that, we went to get out tix for AVP2. but alas, the shops there are quite abit but we didnt get much! only got 3 tops from FOS and a pair of wedge from nose. ling got 2 pairs of shoes from vincci and some tops from FOS too. jerm got nthg.
after our shopping, we went to the open-air concept market for our dinner! it's along gurney drive. seemed to be transported back to the 70s/80s. dazzled by the neon lights of the stalls. and after going thru one round, we plonked at one table.
here's an interesting fact:
the tables are dominated by the drink stalls. which table u sat at determines which drink stall u can order from.
which i tink it's fair. everyone is in the biz to make profit.
we had this veg which is 4-sided. 2 bowls of laksa from 2 different stalls! cendol.. lala.. stingray.. grilled cuttlefish and char kway teow ( which we waited 40mins for it!!!) .. wanton mee.. we were damn full!!!! all of us agreed the char kway teow is the BEST!!! bagus!!!
then we went back to the gurney plaza to walk ard while waiting for the movie. went to check out the nail saloon. wanted to re paint my nails. found out we had to book our appt 1st. so ling n i booked for the next day.
then it's movie time!!! AVP2. hmm.. our verdict: it's a good thing we watched in m'sia. half the price! and the whole movie was really dark!
went back hotel to rest.. coz next day had to be up early!
Day 2 27th DEC 2007
left the hotel ard 830am. before we stepped out, we asked a local for guide. the "map" is not enuff!! the friendly local pointed out to us the jln selamat dont open early. if we want to have our breakfast, we had to walk further down. so we walked along the coastline. took a really slow walk there.
and penang residents are really healthy! many were doing their mroning jog/walks... regardless of age/size/race. 3 of us were not bad. we strolled before our breakfast!
we hit jln birch 1st but we decided to head next door. 3 coffeeshops were selling bak ku teh. in times like this, choose the one with the most crowds! even if there are BIG posters of celebrity's reviews, go with the flow!
we had this bak ku teh and hong shao fish hor fun! not too bad.. but we were really amazed by penang's appetite!! they eat full meals! they were like ordering tze char for brekkie! *faint* jerm n i had coffee. i dun like their coffee.. too sweet.. and it turned sour pretty fast.
our next pit stop: KEK LOK SI TEMPLE!
we were undecided whether to tk taxi straight from the hotel or from the road. so we asked ard.. and decided to walk back to our hotel (abt 20mins walk). we took a cab which cost us RM22 to get us to the foot. though one could have the option of the driver bringing us up to the top!
the journey there made us really feel like we were in m'sia. with the familiar shophouses and little shops. and there's this sign board which made us laugh. it's a pix of a hippo. and it reads:
DONT B A HIPPO! BE HIP! GRAB A FATBURNER NOW! quite corny lor!
we climbed our way slowly to the temple. there are little shops selling all kinds of merchandise from clothes.. to bags.. to shoes.. to wat-not knick knacks. the first impression was the rows of buddha statues! i still rem the rows of buddha statues! haha.. same as 17yrs ago. then we went up the pagoda! oh my! wat a narrow spiral staircase! and we were gg round n round n round. finally reached the top! the scenery from the pagoda was not bad.. lush greenery.. and more greens. and in times like climbing up spiral staircase, a pair of small feet helps alot!!! ask jerm and he will defintiely say "envy florence's small feet!" LOL... and then we slowly began our way down to the foot! thank goodness no headache!
and after "exercising" so much, time for the famous laksa! at the foot of kek lok si temple! we shared a bowl coz we gotta reserved our tummy for other goodies! yum yum!!! it's sour yet spicy! almost done to perfection! and the crowd just came in drove!
next pit stop: JLN SELAMAT!
we took their public bus!! it's actually my 1st time taking a public bus while travelling overseas. not too bad an experience! and it's very cheap! compared to singapore. anw it's a good way to see the streets of penang from the bus.
we alighted at komtar. coz most passengers alighted there. went to check out parkson grand for our suit. but we couldnt find the suit we saw at gurney plaza. nvm.. continue with our journey. and before we left, we saw KATE. it's a japanese brand for cosmetics. bought a green eye shadow! hee..
and we continued walking ..searching for jln selamat! man.... it's such a loooong walk! and finally we saw!!! and the famous char kway teow!!!! we zoomed in and ordered the biggest plate! while waiting for it, there was this auntie trying to market her "bak hu" or prok floss. and there's a song to it: eat my bak hu.. become more beautiful..then wonderful... then tonight can go "tiao wu"( dancing). quite funny lah! then we saw the next table having chee cheong fun. so both ling n i decided to buy over. and while we were waiting for the chee cheong fun.. we saw anthr stall selling char kway teow! judging from the crowd, we concluded we were seated at the wrong stall! sigh.. so we went back and told jerm. our conclusion: we would have anthr plate of the famous char kway teow! muahhahaha.... and immed after we finished our plate of char kway teow, we headed to the next stall!!! it was truly a pig out session! =P
after the satisfying meal, we decided to go to our shopping destination. lot 1. and while walking there, we saw penang plaza. it's one of the places on the list. supposed to look for chendol! but alas... after asking one person, he told us that the famous chendol is not there!!! faint... and we went to wait for the bus to lot 1. it's quite a wait... and the bus had no air con! phew!!! finally when we reached the place, our little heart sank abit. coz that bldg doesnt look like a vibrant shopping paradise at all! but we did managed to get good buy at FILA. and we decided to go for foot reflexology! it's the 1st for jerm. for me, i was too tired, i slept as it was too comfortable. but i could hear ling's laughter. and i even dreamed a bit.. haha.. then we decided to walk to pulau tikus.
it occured to ling that the place we wanted to eat could be the place we went to in the morning. since it's so near! so we decided to go back to the breakfast place. but this time round it's the mini hawker ctr!
here's the food we ordered! we were like famished till too tired to talk much.
slowly took a stroll back. for our manicure and pedicure session. as we were the last 2 customers, the manicurists made us feel unwelcome. it seemed like they wanted to finish their job asap. but overall we were quite satisfied with the nailart they did! =)
then supper time again!! need no re-intro of the food.
Day 3 28th December 2007 (fri)
had the hotel's buffet continental breakfast. not too bad. and after breakfast we went out to grab a cab.
b4 heading to the airport, to burma road first. their famous tau sar pia.. only bought 2 boxes! and headed to airport.

MERRY MERRY X'MAS!!!
anthr fun filled celebration this yr..
24th DEC 2007
dinner was at ah-ma's place. she prepared lots of yummy food!! *slurp* of coz with the help of my uncle who's a chef.. and my 3rd aunt! oh.. the curry by my aunt is without coconut milk! low fat!! good.. haha..
it was quite a nice gathering. saw some cousins which i havent seen for a long time..
then i headed down to st james. yes..DF again.. had my countdown there with augustine n frens. gosh.. the crowd there was simply a killer. it's damn packed! no place to move ur body at all..
my dear frens opened 2 cannons again! faint.. and that's y we got tables rite in front of the stage. BUT we were near the staircase, so with pple going up n down, it sort of killed the mood of partying.
but the performance and the company of good frens saved the day! the performers put up a skit of modern day cinderella! mind you.. not your usual pretty babelicious princess.. but a BIG-SIZED one! haha.. it's really hilarious!
oh.. the world is so small. met annie there! she happened to know one of augustine's fren! haha.. had fun partying with her! next time shall jio her along! coz we stay near each other and can share cab back!hee..

25th december 2007
went to help parents. tired. but at least i had some sleep. brother was solid. he didnt sleep much and he was there to help. that's the goodness of youth! sigh...
went back early coz needed to attend to city harvest's musical. but i missed it! haha.. oh.. i drove there. but i was blur! went to the wrong exit. so u-turned back. by the time i reached there, it was like 2pm. walked ard the carnival. met up with leslie n his japanese wife! kawaii! and we realised, leslie's aunt n uncle is chen liping and chen tai ming! wow.. both yun-chan n i was quite shocked to know that! haha..
then sat down to snack on some cheese fries, chcken wings and fishballs. gave yun~chan her x'mas gift! glad she likes it!! =) left ard 4 for down town east..

all i can say: the gathering was full of laughter n joy! and the weather was kind! and the food prepared by zy was fabulous!
and the best part was the gift exchange! last yr's gifts was mostly on toiletries.. this yr.. ahem.. mostly are gambling related! LOL!!! and since last yr's gift exhange we started with the youngest one to pick the lots, this yr we started with the oldest. =)
some examples: mahjong cards, roulette, poker chips!
before we had the gift exchange, andy went to buy his. coz he didnt wrap up and his gift was in a NTUC plastic bag, he was so paiseh. in the end, he put in anthr $10!
and coz of the unsightly wrapping, all of us thought that it's some cheapo gift. so all of us were praying that we wont get his gift! it turned out that his gift was quite good! jenga!!! so nv judge a book by its cover! haha.. we had a really hilarious time while picking our numbers!! =)

and i got to mention this. eric brought along a mini stove. and we deep fried sotong balls/onion rings/ nuggets! wat a smart idea! and we could even heat up the satay sauce!! =)and the kids get to enjoy sotong balls/hotdogs/nuggets before they went too hungry! =)
and xuanzhi was so cute! at one point he was poo-pooing in his diaper. and gosh, you better not disturb him! coz he will shut u up by telling u he's poo-pooing! and he needs to concentrate! haha!!!
and when we asked him to pose for the camera.. we didnt expect him to pose like this! coz no one ever taught him how to pose! =P
left early. coz gotta go home to pack for my penang trip! =)

i seriously wonder y some pple are so unwilling to accept pple's ideas. and the worse thing they do is to brush aside the person's thots n feelings.
saying things like "i dun tink so-and-so need to resort to it" or along the line "y bother?"
please.. i feel that if u tink u bloody know alot of things.. then take a good look at the world around you! the world just doesnt revolve around u and the pathetic life that you have. those eye-rollings.. dont tink that i never notice!
i'm not angry nor pissed. maybe coz the person is not someone i care.. and his actions cant hurt me in any ways.
but i'm appalled that pple can simply treat ur words as bullshit.. it somehow makes me feel that the person is shallow in his knowledge and character. and that i cant speak any substantial stuff to him. anw come to tink of it.. i havent spoken much to him too. heck.. simply we cant click.
and then maybe it boils down to the frens you have as well. i have different grps of frens. and every grp of frens has their characteristics. some grps can only be meant for laughter n merry kind. some grps are intellectual kinds.. whereby they talk about politics and investment views.. and social news.. some grps whereby we can have heart to heart talks.
and i love interacting with different grps. coz i learn. and i have been taught never to stop learning.
actually i feel kinda sad that pple dont bother with news. maybe coz i studied sociology before. and my education in secondary emphasize on current affairs. i'm nt saying that i'm intellectual or knowledgeable. just that news is an important part of my life. reading the newspaper has become an integrated part of my life. of coz singapore's news smtmes can be abit constricted in their content. hee..

12th DECEMBER 2007 yday was angie's wedding!!! yes.. nice no. 1212..
preparation for her wedding started on tues for me. haha.. coz went to do my mani/pedi. chose a dark brownish red. =)
oh... he called me while i was dng my pedicure. he just reached the hotel. =) according to sonia (my manicurist) my face lit up. hmmm.. did it? but i was happy to receive his call lah. like sonia said, he made the effort to call u when he reached. maybe.. cant read too much into one's actions.
anw back to angie's wedding..
was her sister's gang.. reached her place ard 7am in the morning! then started to put on my make up. was having a throbbing headache. probably due to insufficient sleep. too excited for her!
then started preparing for the games to sabo the brothers.

the brothers reached! and eric was very gao-xiao (funny) kept saying his 'brother' sacrificed himself so we shld let them in! else his 'brother' will haunt us! the 'brother' is none other than the nicely roasted suckling pig! haha!!
the brothers were sporting!! that's the spirit man!!! i have heard brothers who were bo-chup abt the games. but i guessed it's coz we knew each other well, so were more sporting! can u imagine one of the games they have to find ping pong balls, while playing the game halfway.. they hid in one corner to smoke!!! *faint*

we left for botanical gardens to take more pix. actually is the couple lah. then the usual game of tossing the bouquet. after 2 tries, none caught it! but in the end, angie presented to ying ying (bk's gf) hee.. they were like the mini couple.. we teased them it's their ROM day! haha.. oh .. there was a slight drizzle but it didnt dampened the happy mood!

went to bryan n angie's marital home. bryan's mum n siblings were there. they had to "jing cha". it's a tradition to offer the seniors tea to gain their blessings. it was quite a quick affair!
anw their place is done up halfway. the toilet's doors have not arrive yet. so can u imagine the guys who were "high-tide" they gotta hold their water! haha...
oh.. bryan has a very cute nephew called owen! he's a smart kid!!! =)

went back to angie's place to jing-cha. and lunch time!!! we were famished man!!! the food cooked by angie's aunt was simply good! the curry left a deep impression!!

left for the hotel. marriot. when we reached the suite, we wasted no time to get ready. the sisters took turn to bathe and get ready to do up their hair n make up by the stylist.
hmmm.. we were abit behing schedule. i was the last one to go coz not much duty at the recept. angie accompanied me! gosh.. she was so nervous.. hee..

angie and i made the way down. presenting the gorgeous bride!!!
the wedding went on quite smoothly!! =) eric n yonghua were the emcees. a funny combo.. brought out laughter with their deadpan humor. haha..
looking at bryan n angie. really felt happy for them! they have gone thru many things tog.. i was with angie when their r/ship was tested. so now that they are both happily married.. i felt really happy for both of them!! =) wish them happiness and that they will treasure each other even more! =) looking fwd to little angie or little bryan in anthr few years' time! hee...

FRI
fri morning i was very stressed! as i was talking to one of the mgr, the tears welled up. but his words were golden. "tink not of the obstacles. just concentrate on bringing in the cases." so with the faith, i went for my appt in the pm. and i closed the cases. let's just say at this point, the documents are not signed yet but once the cases are in, i achieved my QC elite. nope i'm not going to stop here! i have starclub to achieve! =) and i'm confident i'm able to do it!
then after the fruitful day, went home to prepare for DF! brought brother to DF for the 1st time. hmmm... bro being more in tune with english songs found DF too cheesy.. and his "sianz" look was comical actually. haha..
before going down to DF, he called and asked me if i was heading down too. he was at movida with his frens. wearing santa cap! haha.. so we played a game. Spot-Florence. and when he came over, i saw him. but i didnt call him coz i was blocked by brother! gotta thank my height! and he gave up after awhile and i went to find him.
hmmm bro n him met for the first time. hmmm somehow brother was uncomfortable? i dunnoe. maybe he was uncomfortable too. it was after awhile that he was sure that's my brother. took some pix with the santa cap. =) didnt really have fun there! coz it was way too packed!!! and bro left ard 1230am. so left us there. but we had our own fun. finding the biggest-sized guy/lady.. how many guitars on the stage etc. and he surprised me when he told me how many photos that included me. [hmmm i counted the photos today.. and he was right!] we left ard 2plus. but not before hopping over to movida!
GOSH!!! the music there was superb! should have gone there earlier! sigh. anthr time then. and we left for supper! at henderson road. the famous cheap teochew porridge. after the satisfying meal, headed home.
by the time i reached home, it was 5am. worse for him, coz he still had to drive home.
SAT
dragged myself out of bed for appts. i was feeling light headed. coz not enuff rest. and the appt was at jurong point! faint. but the appt was fruitful.
oh he actually smsed me while i was waiting for my prospect. surprised coz i thot he would sleep in late. but poor him, was roused from his sleep by his bro's call. turned out his sis-in-law n nephew were in town and he had to chauffer them.
he called me after my appt. chatted for awhile and we were basically trying to compete who sounded more tired. haha.. then anthr appt at woodlands before heading home for my nap!
met jerm n ling at orchard. brought them to ayam penyet! they quite love the place! and jerm helped me to buy a 1GB thumbdrive at $16.90!! cheap rite??? last yr.. guessed it was ard $50? anw that's y tech stocks are going up like a snail.
then we headed to spinelli. discussed about our trip! and it's confirmed! we are going to PENANG on the 26-28th dec. within 2hrs we booked out flight n lodging. it's a blessing to meet cheeming in the pm. coz from him, he gave me info on penang. coz he just came back from there. he recommended g-hotel. sounds like a porn hotel.. haha.. but gosh.. it's so nice from the website. anw it's a new hotel so i guessed it's not that bad!! =)

it's going to be a shopping n eating trip!!! yeah! coz our hotel will be next to the gurney plaza. apparently one of the biggest shopping mall there! feeling excited! =)
but my eyes were closing. feeling so so tired. then shared a can with jerm. the queue at hereen wasnt that bad. before 11pm, the cabs were constantly streaming in. but once it struck 11pm, the cabs stopped. and drizzle started. so both of us were caught in the rain for awhile. and once 1130pm struck, the cabs miraculously reappeared. coz surcharges started.
once home..hit the sack! simply too tired.
SUN
i nua-ed the whole day. partly coz AV. cramp was bad. just slept n slept. and dinner with sis n mum at amk ave 10. had the fish head steamboat.
and he called just now. thought he left for US tonight but it's actually tmr afternoon. chatted with him for awhile. was telling him how am i supposed to sleep tonight. and he said smthg cheesy.. looked at the photos and start counting every minute. -_-"
anw seriously i wonder how i'm able to sleep tonight. tmr gotta be in office for the ra-ra session!
hmmm.. and i wonder when will the next time we can go on a date again. not going to see him till 2008. coz he's on biz trip and by the time he's back, i'm away to penang. when i'm back, he's away again. =) till then.. Labels: weekend happenings

fri!! and everyone is talking abt x'mas. yet this yr is one of the years i have no mood for it. y? coz i'm still rushing for my goals and the thought of hitting my goals surpassed the mood for x'mas. else for the previous years, i'm already dng my little gifts for my frens. hmmm.. but this yr.. nope.. i have no time for this ...
talking abt work.. it's so near yet so far. i know it's within my reach. the refusal to throw in the towel at this point is even stronger now! and somehow i know i will be blessed! =)
so these few days/weeks i have been mtg the pple i ought to meet. being more focused.. and that also means i'm stressed! =/ sleepless nite.. dreams abt work.. dark eye circles.. dropping hairs!!! wat else..
oh.. met up with the jie-meis for angie's wedding!!! haha.. we had a fun time discussing the itineary n the games for the brothers!! haha!!! =P it's really fun! cant wait for wed to arrive!!! haiz.. so many things to do!!! not that i'm complaining.. but i'm really excited by it!
but amid this stressful period.. i'm happy to have some time with him! =)
he's been more consistent with his calls/smses.. and we went out on a date on tues!! it's been a looooooooong time. we went chijmes first. but he was craving for live music and none offered that probably for insomnia. but at the point, it was empty! so we headed to INK. the badn was good. had a good time listening to the music. oh.. the song i requested.. BUBBLY.. was rejected coz they played in the 2nd set. we had a fun time chatting.. and we left ard 11plus.
and then his need to shake his booty was too great to ignore! so we headed to DF!!! haha.. and gosh.. the crowd was there. and again he amazed me when he sang along with the cantonese numbers! haha.. great dancing.. and i really enjoyed myself! but too bad.. skye wasnt performing.. left ard 2plus close to 3.. tired..
and then off to KL for him the next day. but he called me yday when he reached sg. it's a sweet gesture. =)
i'm not tinking too much abt where we will end up. maybe it's escapism.. maybe even if i tink till my mind explode.. no one can tell me where we end up. but i know.. i enjoy his company.. n he enjoys mine. =) from the day we first met till now.. we are still laughing n joking n teasing..
i know frens are very concerned. probably they have given up telling me to let go.. but after all the experiences i went thru.. and seeing other examples.. smtmes ... being happy tog is more impt.. and it outweighs everything else..
it's not that i'm scared to ask him qns. but i'm just taking my time. if it ends up well.. perhaps it's good for me. but if it ends up otherwise, at least i know we were never meant to be. but at least i've tried...

i must put this up.. my client/fren/future wedding photographer, alwin brought me to this indonesian restaurant at lucky plaza! i cant rem the name but is smthg penyet aka smashed chicken.
maybe alot of pple already knew abt this place. but i muz really say the food there is SEDAP!!!
i had ayam penyet.. (smashed chicken) abd u get to choose the part of chicken too! WOW!
and we shared a gado-gado. gosh.. the peanut after taste.. lingering in ur mouth..
and it was quite reasonable. $19.30 (inclusive of drinks) for everything!
but the best was the CHILI PADI! it's packed with so much oomph in it! though i almost hit the roof after the first taste.. but it just gets better ..
anw talking abt alwin: he's a part-time photographer. though his experience is not alot, but his works have received commendations from famous bridal links and famous photographers. check out his website: http://alwinlim.com i have recommended him to mervin&huifen and they're very pleased with his works. personally i like his style very much. =) btw he didnt pay me for this short intro of him!
okie.. gotta work somemore..

sick again. sianz. flu.. fever..
but after lotz of water and flu tablets.. much better. just hope it will b better and the flu bug goes away.
